A festival like no other
For a 7th consecutive year TanguerIN will celeberate with special events 11th December, honoured as the Day of Tango (El Día de Tango) by tango aficiandos throughout the world. And for the third year in a row the celebrations will take the form of a special multi-day festival. In 2010 the festival DIA(s) DEL TANGO will take place from 10th to 12th December. Partners of this edition of the Festival are Sofia Municipality, the Embassy of the Argentinean Republic in Bulgaria, the Cinema House, Asado Grill Restaurant and Hotel L'Opera. Like all previous editions this year's festival will be financed exclusively by ticket sales for the various events and will rely on the presence and the support of all tango lovers from Bulgaria and abroad who would like the tradition to live on. The festival is a non-profit event and in the case of a budget surplus (which has never occured so far) it will be invested automatically in the following year's edition.
A little bit of history
11 december 1890 is the birth date of one of the most emblematic personalities in the history of tango - singer and composer Carlos Gardel, author of a number of well known tangos, who made tango popular around the world with his singing and his starring in big Hollywood productions. On this same day, but 9 years later, in 1899, another famous tango figure was born - violinist and composer Julio De Caro, one of the greatest innovators in the history of the genre who introduced arrangment in tango music and created the so-called Decarean school - the base of the education of most tango musicians and composers today. Taking into account the importance of this date in the history of tango, in 1977 11 december was proclaimed as the National Day of Tango in Argentina. Following the growing popularity of argentine tango around the world, many aficionados in other countries began paying tribute to this date and the "Tango Day" gained worldwide recognition.
Taking into consideration the importance of this date in the world of tango, in 2004 the founders of TanguerIN chose it to announce the set up of their organization and since then have tried to turn this date into a true celebration of the dance, the music, the poetry, the art, the culture and the spirit of Tango.
Join us this year again to celebrate Tango and its special day!
